31-year-old Piyali Basak achieved this feat from Chandernagore city in West Bengal. In the earlier year, she, along with Baljeet Kaur, had become the first Indian woman to have scaled Mt. Dhaulagiri(8167m) in Nepal.
On 22nd May, Sunday morning, primary school teacher Piyali Basak became the first Indian woman to conquer Mt. Everest without any oxygen supply.
According to the summit reports, more than 4000 people have quelled the highest peak by far, and only 200 among them were able to do so without an oxygen supply, and Piyali is the 1st Indian woman to join the list.
The journey
The Giridoot mountaineering association has played a vital role in this journey to success. The secretary said that her dream to conquer Everest only became a reality due to the extreme willpower of the lady herself and the fact that numerous people came together and joined hands to fund her expedition.
The Pioneer Adventure Private Limited in Nepal, Piyali’s agency for mountaineering, mentioned her successful summit on Sunday morning.
People from chandernagore had asked for funds for her expedition from the central and state governments but to no avail. The people came together to fund her journey through crowdfunding to raise about 28 lakhs, and here she comes, victorious, fulfilling her dream and making her loved ones proud!
Piyali’s dream came true.
Her family members said that she has been ever enthusiastic about mountaineering despite their monetary issues, and she was the kind of woman who was never demotivated. Her parents were thrilled with her successful expedition and said they were eagerly awaiting her return home.
Bengal is celebrating the victory of a woman from Chandernagore, and everyone is overwhelmed with her record and happy to have her dream fulfilled.
