More and more women are now coming forward to report sexual harassment instances as a result of the MeToo movement and the growing awareness of sexual assaults. However, as a result of this, some women are bringing untrue accusations that endanger men’s reputations and careers. As a result, advocates for men’s rights are calling for the creation of a distinct “National commission for men.”
This request is not brand-new. Over the past few years, activists have been appealing to the government because so many laws in India are biased against men.
Is it needed in India?
India’s population is 51.47 per cent male, according to the 2011 census. Although India has a “Ministry for Women & Child Development,” no official organisation is focused on men’s rights. It is unjust to treat people differently based on their gender because India is a democratic nation.
Sadly, there have been instances of laws being abused to damage innocent males despite better and stricter systems and regulations being in place to deal with incidences of sexual harassment, rape, and domestic violence. Such guys would at least be allowed to present their case by establishing a Ministry of Men. This is not intended to refute the rationale for women’s protection in anyway.
Furthermore, since ancient times, India has been a patriarchal society. Indian men need to be re-educated and reformed with societal changes to change to an equal society for women in every element of life. Women’s status in society requires changing, and the only way to do that is through an inclusive strategy. To address such concerns of changing how men feel and behave, a ministry of men would unquestionably be necessary.
Why is it unnecessary?
For women in India, going to the police precinct to report a crime committed against them is exceedingly challenging. Men’s commission would discourage them from going to court even more.
Women require specific laws to protect them because they frequently experience violence due to their gender. However, in general, males do not experience physical abuse based only on their gender.
