Communalism- The Danger to the secular and Democratic India
February 2002 was the witness of the spine chilling course of communalism. And events that braided irrevocably to the history of India as well as the political discourse of the nation. The Gujarat riot took more than 1000 lives, mostly Muslim. And also marked the rise of the current political party in power, always aiming to invoke the nationalist. And religion-related influence to propagate their agenda of making secular India a ‘Hindu Rashtra’
India, even before the arrival of the British, was a land where exclusivity and tolerance thrive. Even during the conflict of various royal powers.
People from foreign lands have come here, loved our hospitality and made this country their home. After the independence of India from the British monarchy. The Indian Constitution, drafted by the makers to reflect the secular soul of India. All communally fueled riots on this land. But very few as deadly as the 2002 riot.Now. The person who was the CM of Gujarat at that time is the Prime Minister of our nation. The Bharatiya Janata Party has made some attractive and interesting promises to the mass and came into power by a major number of votes. But did they live up to those promises?
How communalism destroying India
If we talk about actively propagating to spread their communal interest, then yes. But if we talk about effective public policies, then their success far fetched claim. Their policies like the demonstration. The Citizen Amendment Act, the recent farmer’s bill to name a few- were all proved to be disastrous. And very evidently unconstitutional in the public eye. Their focus always seems to be on making a distraction by attacking the secularism of our nation. By alternating a group of people for following a different religion. In the modern world where far more important issues are looking us in the eye. Unnecessary complications such as these would prove to be fatal to the secular and democratic structure of India.
