The Delhi government had previously decided to lower the Value-Added Tax (VAT) on petrol, reducing the cost of gasoline in the city by almost Rs 8 per liter. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal presided over a meeting of the Delhi cabinet, which made the decision.
Officials stated the VAT on petrol would be slashed from 30 percent to 19.4 percent during a cabinet meeting led by Kejriwal, resulting in savings of roughly Rs 8 per gallon.
Price Predictions
According to, the price of petrol will fall from Rs 103 per liter to Rs 95 per liter when the VAT is reduced.
Previously, the price of gasoline in Delhi was higher than in the NCR cities of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, where the state governments had announced a VAT reduction in response to the Centre lowering the excise duty on fuel prices.
On the eve of Diwali, the Centre announced a reduction in excise duty on fuels, resulting in a significant drop in petrol and diesel prices across the country. The government had reduced the price of gasoline by Rs 5 and diesel by Rs 10. Following this decision, several states, run mainly by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and its allies, have reduced the value-added tax (VAT) on gasoline and diesel prices.
